Are you that special kind of entrepreneur who pushes obstacles to new ideas aside, is prepared to take calculated risks, and achieves success against the odds? Do you lead and motivate people to exceed mundane goals and targets?

What the judges are looking for

Individuals who possess the all important relevant skills of achievement, style, business acumen, ability to motivate and enterprise. Entrants should have made and are making a consistent contribution to the business environment in which they work.

Please write your overall description in no more than 500 words (fewer are perfectly acceptable) and then separately answer the questions below. If you want to attach supporting materials such as photos, leaflets, testimonials, etc. please do so.

Specific questions to answer

  1. Demonstrate evidence of your personal contribution to staff development.
  2. Identify special circumstances or attributes that you have such as overcoming adversity.
  3. Describe an example of where you have personally increased business productivity
  4. How have you expanded your company's brand or product range?
  5. Give examples of innovative or creative ideas that have had an impact on your business

About the judges

Kathy Woodward, 2006 winner of this category, is Chief Executive Officer of Partnership Education Group and ahr Shingles Hall. Both companies provide specialist support services though ahr Shingle Hall is a not for profit organisation redirecting its surplus to benefit the local community.

Kathy was previously Chief Executive Officer of Fonebak plc; an Environmental Company which was floated on the AIM Stock Market in 2005 and which increased its turnover from £20m to £140m in just over four years. Prior to that she was Group Operations Director and Main Board Director of Astron PLC which started as a management buyout and eventually exited as a trade sale for in excess of £500m.

Kathy started in Human Resource Management and still lectures on "winning hearts and minds"
