There are two age categories for the Young Chef of the Year title and a winner will be selected in each age range.
Age: 10 – 13yrs and 14 – 17yrs

To enter, you must produce on paper a dish of your choice. You will be required to complete an application form which you will find in the "how to enter and nominate tab". You will have a budget of £10 and for this amount you must produce a main course. Innovation and simplicity are the key words. We are also looking for the use of seasonal and local produce and imagination and originality.

A shortlist of three finalists in each age category will be selected from the paper entries and will be invited to cook their dishes in a live cooking final where the eventual winner will be chosen. A £10 budget will be allowed for all the produce and this must not be exceeded.

You will be judged on:
Balance of taste, seasoning and presentation
Originality & imagination
Best use of local seasonal produce
Hygiene, planning and work methods
Timing of final presentation dish

Peter is a food writer, TV and radio broadcaster and winner of the B.B.C Masterchef for 2006 /7. He has worked with many of the Uks leading restaurants, and is one of Taste-Italia's most popular cook instructors. Peter is a passionate advocate for fresh local food, and support for the diversity and promotion of small specialist growers.

Leo Smith is the founder of the Award winning Taste-Italia cookery school. With six summer schools in Italy, and a year around school in Ramsden Heath, Taste-italia now in its 4th year teaches a wide range of traditional Italian recipes, Leo has developed an extensive kitchen garden, which produces a year around supply of organic vegetables, Specialist classes are held for children Family classes, and for 2008 a new range of diploma classes Singles and teambuilding courses, the school uses only local food. Leo Smith is the convivium leader for Slow Food Essex a worldwide non profit organization, that promotes food diversity, local food communities and environmentally sound growing practices.
