<!-- Start editing here-->WALTER H Squires and Son, the long-established third generation family funeral directors, founded in Tiverton in 1933 and now run by
husband and wife team Ryan P Squires and Melanie Squires, have brought their high level of care and expertise to the Culm Valley area by opening a funeral premises
at 27 Higher Street, Cullompton. The decision to establish premises in Cullompton, offering the same level of service provided in Tiverton, has not been rushed. The initial
idea has been nurtured for approximately the past eight eight years by Ryan, the company's senior partner. Walter H Squires and Son has been asked to provide services
for the communities of Cullompton and the Culm Valley area for many years, especially following the tragic passing in 1989 of Cullompton's then leading funeral director,
Keith Hellier. Peter H Squires, Ryan's father and Walter H Squires and Son's then senior partner, was privileged to be asked to care for Mr Hellier's funeral arrangements.
Since then, Walter H Squires and Son has provided the Cullompton and the Culm Valley area with a level of service and care that can be matched by very few.
Well-trained staff, the most up to date vehicles and premises and an insistence that traditional values and customs are not forgotten have been the keystone of the
company's success and are the foundation of the firm's motto "From Tradition and Integrity Comes Peace of Mind".
It was always of the utmost importance for Walter H Squires and Son to find a location close enough to the town centre to be conveniently positioned but also far enough
away from the main hustle and bustle of town life to provide privacy and anonymity to the grieving families which would require Walter H Squires and Son's quality assistance.
Ryan and Melanie felt that the recently bereaved should not be faced with the distress of leaving a funeral director's premises and having to walk straight out into a busy town
centre or High Street full of curious shoppers.
The premises underwent an extensive refurbishment including re-roofing, full rewiring and replacement uPVC doors and windows. The building now offers unrivalled facilities
including those needed to assist the hard of hearing in the ground floor arrangement room and full disabled toilet facilities, so that the firm complies with the
Disability Discrimination Act.

<!-- Start editing here-->The large Chapel of Rest, which can also act as a Service Chapel if required, is served by its own private waiting room. The Chapel also benefits
from an integral audio facility, allowing personal music to be played during a Chapel visit or service.
The large temperature controlled mortuary facility includes an embalming theatre which also acts as a washing room, ensuring that if a family's religious beliefs require they
personally carry out this final act of care for their loved one they can do so in a comfortable and suitably respectful and peaceful environment.
The first floor has a larger arrangement room and also has a coffin selection room, for those who wish to actually see the choice of coffins, rather than making a selection based
on a range of pictures in a brochure.
The premises are tastefully decorated and furnished with elegant leather Chesterfield sofas and chairs.
Originally the official opening of the premises was to take place on December, 20 2007, a date very close to Ryan's heart as it marked 10 years since his father and mentor,
Peter, died, but the complexity of the refurbishment meant this launch date would prove impossible.
Commenting on the importance of the date, Ryan said "Everything we have achieved in the last 10 years has been a result of the guidance Dad gave me in the eight short year
we worked together and has been built on the foundation of hard work and dedication he left behind."
The Chapel of Rest was dedicated on Tuesday, April 22, and was officially dedicated as the Walter H Squires Memorial Chapel of Rest, in memory of Walter Squires,
the company's founder, in a multi-denominational ceremony. The official launch took place on on Thursday Note: april 24.
Commenting on the new premises and their official opening, Ryan said: "This has been a personal dream of mine for the last eight years.
"Both Melanie and I are immensely proud of what we've been able to achieve and I know we will be a valuable asset to Cullompton and the area."
Audrey Hill, lay reader of St Andrew's Church, Cullompton, said: "The new facilities are marvellous. There are quiet rooms for relatives, the chapel is nicely laid out and the
whole ambience is one of peacefulness and very much geared to the care of the bereaved."
Barrie Marshall, mayor of Cullompton said it was a beautiful place of rest.
He said: "When you go into the building the atmosphere is so nice, it is tastefully decorated and carpeted everywhere. I was pleased to be able to unveil the plaque and to
congratulate Mr and Mrs Squires. Any new business is good for Cullompton."
Dr Andrew Smith said: "It is a very impressive building the Squires have created, which seems to be very well-thought out to cater for the needs of the people they serve.
The opening of the new parlour is an excellent addition to the services on offer in the Cullompton area."
On Saturday, July 5, in association with Golden Charter Funeral Plans, the firm will be sponsoring the Heard Open Triples Tournament at the Culm Vale Bowling Club.
For three quarters of a century, Walter H Squires and Son has been a name synonymous with dignity and pride in the profession of funeral directing. Carrying on the family
tradition is a way of life. As local family funeral directors, the company is dedicated to providing the very best service available.
It has a long and proud history and are committed to upholding professional standards.
Walter H Squires and Son strives to meet your immediate needs but also seeks to build a relationship of trust, so that you will feel able to turn to them for help in the future.
Walter H Squires and Son offer a dedicated 24 hour a day service, 365 days a year; one phone call will gain their immediate attention.
