Suburban convenience

THE idyllically called Kingfisher Drive, on the outskirts of Okehampton, lives up to its name. Iridescent flashes have been glimpsed of this most brilliant of birds darting along the stream which feeds into the Okement River.

Set in the Upcott Valley, just a stroll away from the rugby club and brisk walk from Waitrose, it offers peace and quiet with total convenience.

This is a select development of six luxury properties carefully planned to complement its woodland setting. Built by Barnstaple-based Pearce Homes, established in the region for some 60 years, these houses more than live up to the company’s credo of quality and style in choice locations.

Each house shares the same high level of craftsmanship, and each property harmonises with its neighbour – yet each is a celebration of architectural individuality.

Although several houses are still being completed, of the six plots, two have already been sold. Some properties can be too isolated, some too claustrophobic. Kingfisher Drive offers the best of all worlds.

It is new, easy to maintain, close to town, yet on the edge of undulating countryside. Here, for the discerning, is something a little bit different and a little bit special. Internally the houses instantly impress with their strong individuality and their airy feel of space.

The rooms are large with lounges ideal for entertaining, and kitchens spacious and practical. The houses have a warm homely feel, and potential purchasers are sure of excellent on-site support and after-sale care from builders Pearce Homes.

Each of the properties has a strong characterful look which fuses contemporary with spacious luxury. The Pine, the five-bedroom show house built on three floors, demonstrates that quality.

The master bedroom has an imposing window, from floor to ceiling apex, with a spacious dressing room leading on to an equally opulent tiled bathroom.

Outside, all the houses are a textural blend of stone, cladding and block and render giving them a welcoming, almost smiley façade.

Each dwelling comes with a natural area of trees and shrubs which is rich in bird life. Site manager Paul Cooper said Kingfisher Drive was unusual, in that it was rare to get planning permission for such sites for large houses.

“The properties are sympathetic to the area and everyone involved are very pleased with the way they have turned out. There has been a very good team of local tradesmen,” he said.

The properties are for sale through Savills (01392 455721) with prices ranging from £499,950 to £545,000.
