The Hull & Humber yacht

The Hull and Humber Clipper will be making its second circumnavigation of the globe. It was specially designed and built for Clipper 05-06 to replace the original fleet of eight Clipper 60s which had completed four races since their debut in 1996. The yacht is 68 feet long (20.8 metres) and the hull is constructed from a glass fibre composite sandwich – two layers of glass fibre with a layer of balsa wood in between. This makes the hull strong but incredibly lightweight for its size, and that means it's really fast, too, reaching top speeds of a whisker under 30 knots.

The boat was designed by Englishman Ed Dubois, a renowned naval architect; the hull was built in Shanghai, China; the mast and sails come from Cape Town, South Africa and the winches are American.
