Talent Trail

venues: Show regular is back on trail again

SINCE Talent Trail was launched in 1995, one club has been involved every year without fail.

The Cherokee Club in Askew Avenue, west Hull, has been part of the competition year in, year out, and 2008 will be no exception.

Owner Phillip Asquith, 45, is looking forward to welcoming acts to his club again for heats and semi-finals and says he is proud to be taking part again.

He said: “I’ve been involved for four years, since I bought the club. It’s a show for a lot of the talent that we don’t normally see and it’s a boost.

“I’m proud to have Talent Trail here. Prior to me buying the club, Wilf Nesfield spent a lot of years talking to people at the Mail and built this into the competition it is. It’s the best in the north of England.”
The first heat of the competition this year will be held at the club on

Thursday, January 29, and Mr Asquith is looking forward to seeing what the Talent Trail hopefuls have to offer this year.

He said: “The quality of the acts is impressive. We’re fortunate in Hull because when you look around at other cities at the levels of entertainers they have, they don’t compare very well with us.

“There is a wealth of talent in Hull that isn’t always noticed and recognised, even within the city itself.

“The people who have entered over the past few years have had no real experience. “I really enjoy it when you get an act that stands out so much that you’re excited. You stand there on the night and you think ‘that was a tremendous entertainer’.”
Five of the competition’s heats and two of the semi-finals are scheduled to be held at the Cherokee Club this year.
