Andy Unwin

Lucy Chester

THERE was nothing wooden about joiner Andy Unwin’s performance in the latest heat of Talent Trail 2008.
The 28-year-old guitarist and vocalist gave a stunning performance in front of a 150-strong audience at The Willows Club in Holderness Road, east Hull, with his performance to storm into the next round.
He performed Paul Weller’s anthem Wild Wood and Ocean Colour Scene’s Here In My Heart, before belting out Ronan Keating favourite When You Say Nothing At All.
After the show, jubilant Andy, of High Street, city centre, said: “I am really excited about it.
“I did not expect to go through, after seeing some of the acts that were on tonight.”
Andy, who achieved nine and 10 marks from the panel of judges, was full of praise for another contestant to go through, Lucy Chester.
He said: “I thought Lucy was fantastic. If I am honest, I was worried about getting through.”
Andy told how he took up the guitar as a youngster.
“It is something I have done since I was a schoolboy,” he said.
“I have been in a band for 11 or 12 years, but this was the first time I’ve played solo.”

Lucy went through to the semi-finals in second place.
Aged just 17, she earned a rapturous round of applause from the audience for a sensational performance.Lucy, of Patrington Haven, was last to take to the stage, but her final song, Cabaret, served as a perfect finale.
Before the show, she confessed how nervous she was – especially with an 18-strong army of supporters sat just in front of the stage.
But when it mattered, she hit the right notes and had the audience captivated.
Lucy, who also sang hits by Alicia Keys and Celine Dion, said: “Ever since I was about four I have loved singing. I get such a buzz from it.
“I did not expect to go through to the next round either.”
Both contestants are now considering their song selections for the next round.
Liz Hugill, Talent Trail’s organiser, was impressed with the turn-out.
She said: “The turn-out was excellent. This is a new venue and we seem to have got a lot of interest from the regulars.”
Others who took part in the heat were Keri Taylor, Tony Craven, duo Chris Marsh and Steve Shaw, Dean Moon and Karen Giblin.
Heat nine of Talent Trail 2008 will be held at 8.30pm on Tuesday at the Cherokee Club, in Askew Avenue, west Hull.
