ON the night of the big earthquake, Talent Trail didn’t disappoint in the tremors department.
First, Hull group The 45s left the Cherokee Club audience all shook up with a trio of Mod-era pop nuggets.
Then city-based crooner Peter Kind, 46, raised the roof with a show-stopping version of Somewhere from West Side Story.
Playing a brimful of classics, The 45s ripped through Last Time by The Rolling Stones, The Who’s Substitute and Stepping Stone by The Monkees
With a host of familiar faces from Hull’s indie scene, the band just pipped Peter by a point to win the heat.
They both now quality for the contest’s semi-finals.
Graham Norton, lead singer and bassist with The 45s, said: “We are dead chuffed. We all play in other bands, but decided to do the Mod stuff because we love the music and it’s a bit of an earner too.”
As well as his musical number, Peter delivered note-perfect versions of Frank Sinatra’s Under My Skin and Gary Puckett’s Young Girl.

“I’m really pleased to get through to the semi-finals, I’ve been singing since I was 16, but it’s my first time in Talent Trail and it's been a real pleasure to be involved.”
Boston-based anti-social behaviour officer Adam Craft, 17, wowed the crowd with Bill Withers’ Ain’t No Sunshine, The Bee Gees’ Words and Paolo Nutini’s New Shoes.
Corner shop assistant Johnny Nielson, 23, of west Hull, sang Malcolm Roberts’ Love Is All, Take That’s Shine and X-Factor winner Leon Jackson’s When You Believe.
Shoe shop assistant manager Tarina Duffield, 22, of west Hull, put her heart and soul into Que Sera, Shania Twain’s Honey I’m Home and Over The Rainbow.
While 16-year-old Jess Keating, of Spalding, tackled Gabrielle’s Out Of Reach, Black Eyed Boy by Texas and The Calling’s Wherever You Will Go.
Heat 10 of Talent Trail 2008 will be held at 8.30pm tonight at the Belmont Club, Newbridge Road, east Hull.
