Dressed in a dazzling red suit, Russell Donkin sailed through to the semi-finals of Talent Trail
after impressing the judges in heat 10.
The father-of-three, who was the final act to perform at the Belmont Club in east Hull, managed to secure his place in the next stage of the competition.
He performed Shirley Bassey’s I Who Have Nothing, I Can’t Give You Anything But My Love by the Stylistics and Relax by Frankie Goes To Hollywood.
Russell, 32, performing as Russ X, is also one third of Hull trio Triple Exposure.
He said he was thrilled to make it through to the semi-finals.
“It’s absolutely fantastic. The audience was brilliant and it’s been a really nice night, so I’m very happy,” he said.
Kay-Leigh McDougall, 21, of east Hull, also made it through to the semi-finals.
She sparkled on stage in a bright green dress and performed You’ve Got A Way by Shania Twain, This Is My Life by Shirley Bassey and the Celine Dion version of River Deep, Mountain High.
Kay-Leigh, who performed as K-Lee, had never entered Talent Trail before.
She said: “The best man won, but I feel really good. To get through to the semi-
finals is a good feeling.

“My family and friends have been really supportive and they are going to be really happy. They all screamed and shouted.”
The judges were Nick Glaves, the Mail’s business reporter, former Hull landlady Sandra Doy and singer Chrissy Clark. Four acts narrowly missed out on a place in a the semi-finals, including Mike Hall, 49, of east Hull.
He performed It’s Now Or Never by Elvis Presley, My Girl by The Temptations and Still by Lionel Richie.
Jennifer Barber, 33, travelled from Spalding, Lincolnshire, for the heat.
She performed Grease Is The Word,
Fading Like A Flower by Roxette and Don’t Call Me Baby by Madison Avenue.
Student Marcus Bowen, 22, of Lincoln, has previously entered Talent Trail three times.
He took to the stage to perform When You Say Nothing At All by Ronan Keating, Crazy Little Thing Called Love by Queen and Frank Sinatra’s My Way.
Carolyn Foy, 40, of Immingham, performed a dance mix of Fields Of Athenry and a dance mix of Sometimes When We Touch by Dan Hill.
She also performed Torn Between Two Lovers by Mary MacGregor.
Talent Trail 2008 is supported by the Mail and Reel Cinemas and is raising money for the Mail’s charity of the year, Hull Animal Welfare Trust.
