Talent Trail
news archive: A musical talent hidden for years

AS ACTS race to sign up for this year’s Talent Trail contest, organisers have noticed an increase in the number of men taking part.
But fewer women have put their names in for this year’s contest, even though the winners for the past two years have been women.
One lady who has signed up in the hope of wowing crowds and judges at Hull City Hall to claim the £2,000 prize and trophy is 19-year-old Claire Jordan, of Willerby.
She said: “I came home one day and my dad had put an entry form on my bed. He always hears me singing around the house and he wanted me to do something with it.
“I’m just bubbly and I want
everyone to have a good time really.

“It will be one of my first times performing in front of people and if people get into it, then I will be less nervous.”
Contest co-ordinator Liz Hugill is keen for more female acts to come forward.
She said: “Come on girls, don’t let the lads beat you. Don’t let yourselves be beaten by male power.
“We try to mix the acts up so we have both men and women.
“For example, on February 7 I need one more act and I’m desperate for a female. I need another girl in that heat.”
Before making it to the grand final at Hull City Hall, acts will have been whittled down through 18 heats and four semi-finals against others hoping to show what they can do.

In east Hull, The Willows,
Chambers and the Belmont Social Club are all due to feature in this year’s competition.
Heats for this year’s contest,
sponsored by Reel Cinemas, will also be held at Dene Park Club in north Hull and the Cherokee Club, West Hull Liberal Club and the Walton Street Club in west Hull.
Anyone wishing to enter Talent Trail must be aged 16 or over.
Previous Talent Trail winners are not permitted to re-enter.
This year, video footage of people taking part in the contest will be shown on the big screen in Queen Victoria Square, city centre.
The Mail will also provide coverage of every heat and videos will also be available to view on the Talent Trail website.
