news archive: I'll make a mark on competition

A YOUNG graphic designer is hoping to draw attention to himself in this year’s Talent Trail contest.

Charles Kirtley, of Greenwood Avenue, north Hull, is hoping he will have what it takes to make it all the way to the final at Hull City Hall.
Friends and family have been egging him on and are keen to support him in this year’s competition.

He said: “I’ve been singing all of my life. I sing a full range including musical theatre and love songs. I’m trying to put as much range into my act as possible.

“I never saw much of Talent Trail until last year and I’ve really been getting known on the karaoke circuit, getting into singing more and getting a passion for it.
“All my friends say I’m a good singer. I’ll have them all behind me and my family, too.
“I hope I’ve got a good chance, I’d like to think if anything, I will get through to the next round. Getting to the city hall is a big hope for me.”

This year, as well as coverage of every heat in the Mail and videos of the best acts, the contest will also be shown on a dedicated website and on the big screen in Hull city centre.

After 18 heats and four semi-finals, the top acts in this year’s contest will face each other at Hull City Hall.

Heats for this year’s contest – sponsored by Reel Cinemas – will be held at Dene Park Club in north Hull and West Hull Liberal Club, the Cherokee Club and Walton Street Club, all in west Hull. In east Hull, The Willows, Chambers, and Belmont Social Club will also feature.

While many of the acts looking forward to the event are singers,
variety acts and groups are also encouraged to take part and show what they can do in a 15-minute slot.

The overall winner will be presented with a prize of £2,000 and a trophy.Anyone wishing to enter must be aged 16 or over.

Previous Talent Trail winners are not permitted to re-enter.
