THE search for the best of the region’s talent has crossed the river for the first time.
Six acts took to the stage at the Belmont Club in Newbridge Road, east Hull, where audience members packed in to watch the singers compete for a coveted place in the semi-finals of Talent Trail 2008.
The second heat saw the judges take the decision to put through three acts, as the high standard resulted in a dead heat for second place.
Jaden Brooks, of Endike Lane, west Hull, was first in the judges’ rankings, securing her place in the semi-finals with a country and western set.
The 25-year-old singer wowed the audience with performances of Patsy Cline’s Sweet Dreams and Dolly Parton’s Nine To Five, before giving a rendition of her favourite song, The Wedding, by Julie Rogers.
Jaden said: “I love country and I stuck to what I know best.
“This is the seventh year I’ve entered Talent Trail and, although I’ve been through to the semi-finals

before, I’ve never won a heat. It’s such a great feeling to win.”
Also through to the semi-finals are Dave Herrick and Trevor James.
Both were put through after judges were unable to choose between them.
Dave, 33, from west Hull, made it through with performances of She Bangs, She’s So High and True.
He said: “This is the first time I’ve ever been in a competition so it’s great.”
Sixth form teacher Trevor, 52, of Beverley Road, west Hull, sang Let Me Try Again, O Sole Mio and Ol’ Man River.
He said: “I just enjoy singing, so to come somewhere was a bonus.”
Runners up Carmen, David Gill and Derek Herrington also gave sterling performances to an appreciative audience at the east Hull venue.
The next heat of the competition will be held on Tuesday at the West Hull Liberal Club, with acts taking to the stage from 8.30pm. |
