A SELECTION of soulful saxophone tunes helped book a place in the semi-finals for a musical trio in the latest Talent Trail heat.
Solid Sax were crowned winners of heat 11, held at the New Walton Street Club in west Hull.
The trio was made up of saxophonists Gareth Jones, 46, of Beverley, and Peter Moody, 35, and singer Karen Moody, 40, both from Cottingham.
The group, which formed six months ago, entertained the crowd with Echo 4-2 by Bad Manners, Valerie by Amy Winehouse, and Stormy Weather by Billie Holliday.
The trio said they were thrilled with their win.
Mr Jones said: “I feel amazed to be honest. It is the first time I have ever done anything like this, so I am really pleased.”
Also joining them in the semi-finals is A-level student Sarah Pollin, of Pontefract.
Sarah, 18, who hopes to become a primary school teacher, wowed the judges with renditions of You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me by Dusty Springfield, I Drove All

Night by Roy Orbison, and This Is The Moment, from the Jekyll And Hyde musical.
Sarah said: “It is an honour. I am really pleased to get through.”
Also performing was Kristian Burke, 23, of west Hull, who was entering for the sixth time.
He entertained the audience with Backstage by Gene Pitney, a Roy Orbison medley and I’m A Believer by The Monkees.
Performing arts student Jenny Kent, 20, of Peterborough, showed off her talents with renditions of Don’t Know Why by Norah Jones, Breakaway by Kelly Clarkson and Say You’ll Be There by the Spice Girls.
Bingo caller Gary Marsden, 25, of Sutton, gave a strong performance with renditions of Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol, and the Gareth Gates version of Spirit In The Sky.
Rounding off the heat was Llinos Roberts, 23, of east Hull.
The musical theatre graduate finished the show in style with renditions of Mariah Carey’s Hero, River Deep, Mountain High by Tina Turner and Show Me Heaven by Maria McKee.
