A MUSIC student has claimed the winners spot at heat 14 of Talent Trail 2008.
Kizzy Bateman, 17, of Anlaby began singing when she was just eight years old.
As a piano player began combining the two.
She gave three commanding performances at the Willows Club, in Holderness Road, east Hull to take top spot and a place in the semi finals.
She sang Thousand Miles by Vanessa Carlton, Beauty and the Beast, by Celine Dion and Autumn Leaves by Eva Cassidy.
Speaking after the heat she said: “I feel kind of weird, I have never done anything like this before.
“I sang for Valentine’s night at the pub I work at and one of the judges came and saw me and tried to egg me on to take part. When I sing it’s magic, it’s something I love doing, I’m ecstatic.”
Joining Kizzy in the semi final is duo Lillie Kerman, 17, of Bilton, and her boyfriend Steve Mitchell, 19, of Withernsea.
The duo are on a musical theatre course together at Hull College.
Both have sung as individuals before but joined up one month ago for Talent Trail.
Lillie said: “I’m shocked, I did not think we were getting through so we are really really pleased.”
In total eight acts battled it out for a spot in the semi finals.

Serena Hammadeh, 19, of Albert Avenue, West Hull impressed with some Amy Winehouse and Whitney Houston.
Mum of two Helen Share, 29, of Summergangs Road, east Hull, is more used to delivering babies at Hull Royal’s midwifery unit than taking to the stage, but she impressed the audience with Back to Black and Valerie by Amy Winehouse and Autumn Leaves by Eva Cassidy.
