IT was a battle of the big voices as the first round of Talent Trail drew to a close.

Eight acts, eager to make it through to the semi-finals, took to the stage at the Belmont Club in Newbridge Road, east Hull.
Sparkling in sequins, Donna Marie Mackinder, of Longhill, east Hull, secured her place in the semi-finals with the highest possible score.
The 34-year-old singer was praised by the judges for her belting performances of The Greatest Love of All by Whitney Houston, Kiki Dee’s I’ve Got the Music in Me, and Wind Beneath My Wings, made famous by Bette Midler.
Ms Mackinder said: “It’s amazing. I’ve had a few years out of the competition.
“I’ve never got top marks before so that is an achievement. I was shocked.”
Also through to the semi-finals was Jenna Elise Scottow, of Holderness Road, east Hull, who wowed audiences with her performances of There You’ll Be by Faith Hill, Anastasia’s I’m Outta Love and Whitney Houston’s version of I Will Always Love You.
The 23-year-old graphic designer said: “I’m totally in shock. I didn’t think I’d get through because I was really nervous being the first one on.”
Six acts narrowly missed out on a place in the semi-finals.

Louisa Clare, 17, travelled from Boston, Lincolnshire to perform If I Ain’t Got You by Alicia Keys, The Corrs’ What Can I Do? and Ironic by Alanis Morissette.
After battling with broken-down car and no backing tracks of his own, 23-year-old Jonathan Crowther, of Boulevard, west Hull, bravely took to the stage unrehearsed.
He sang Roy Orbison’s Pretty Woman, Can You Feel the Love Tonight? by Elton John and The Monkees’ Daydream Believer.
Rob Knaggs, 23, of Bilton Grange, performed Mack The Knife by Bobby Darin, Nat King Cole’s Let There Be Love, and Raining In My Heart by Buddy Holly.
Rebecca Smith, 21, of Beverley, sang Shirley Bassey’s Big Spender, Tell Me Its Not True from musical Blood Brothers and Flashdance – What A Feeling by Irene Cara.
Sam Simpson, 27, of Wingfield Road, east Hull, sang Bobby’s Girl by Susan Maughn, and Beautiful South hits Rotterdam and Don’t Marry Her.
Rory Healey, 28, of Willerby, gave a comic performance including I’m Your Man by Wham, Angel by Shaggy and Gary Puckett’s Young Girl.
The first semi-final will be held at 8.00pm on Tuesday, April 8, at the Cherokee Club, Askew Avenue, west Hull.
