Air Museum:
FANCY an excellent day out for all the family with plenty to look at and learn about? Then a visit to the Yorkshire Air Museum, in Elvington, near York may be for you.
The museum is a living memorial to all the Allied Air Forces personnel who operated from Yorkshire during the Second World War. The museum aims to be relevant to present day generations by explaining in a realistic way what life was like on a typical wartime bomber station, as well as displaying the history of aviation.
Yorkshire has a particular place in aviation from Sir George Cayley – the world-renowned father of aeronautics – to present day aircraft manufacture. And the museum is justly proud of the region’s heritage and across the site you can explore aspects of design and technology dating from the 1850s right up to the present day. All of these make the Yorkshire Air Museum an exciting attraction.
From October 27 until March 29, the museum is open from 10am to 3.30pm, every day.
And from March 30 until October 26, the museum is open from 10am to 5pm, every day.

National Fishing Heritage Museum:
GRIMSBY’S fishing heritage is remembered and celebrated in the National Fishing Heritage Museum. The multi-award winning museum recreates Grimsby’s maritime history with a tour that includes a recreation of a 1950’s voyage with authentic aromas and moving decks, as well as scenes from the street and home life of old Grimsby.
The centre is only two minutes walk from Grimsby town centre. It tells the story of local fishermen, their boats and the waters they fished in. The dangers and hardships of life at sea are explained and there are realistic re-constructions of back streets and alleys of 1950s Grimsby. You can tour the ex-Grimsby trawler, Ross Tiger, where you will be guided by a former trawlerman who will explain the problems and hardships of life at sea often in dangerous waters, cramped accommodation and appalling weather conditions.
There is no restriction on who can visit the Fishing Heritage Centre, although the steep sides of the Ross Tiger make access difficult for visitors who require assistance with walking and children under five.
The centre is open all year round, from April to October, Monday to Friday from 10am to 5pm and weekends and bank holidays from 10.30am to 5.30pm.
From November to March, the museum is open Monday to Friday from 10am to 4pm and weekends from 11am to 3pm.

Exhibits

The Blackburn Beverley

One of the Forts most impressive exhibits is the World's only surviving Blackburn Beverley Aircraft.

The plane was originally built at British Aerospace in Brough and made its final flight into Paull Aerodrome just outside the village, it remained there for ten years before being moved to the Beverley Army Museum where it was a focal point for visitors for several years. When the museum closed a bid was made by the Fort to purchase the aircraft. The bid was subsequently successful and in 2005 the Beverley returned home to Paull.

The staff at Fort Paull are extremely proud of this acquisition and are determined to preserve not just the fabric of the aircraft but also its history. Inside the aircraft you will find information regarding the history of the Blackburn Beverley and this specific aircraft in particular, you can also look around its massive frame and see just how much the plane could carry.

No visit to the Fort is complete without looking at the Blackburn Beverley.
