FARMERS OF THE FUTURE WILL NEED AGENTS OF THE FUTURE
Looking ahead 25 years, when the next generation of farmers will be taking the reins, what are currently now regarded as “novel crops” for fuel or pharmaceuticals will be part of the mainstream with huge opportunities alongside the business of food production.
Mark Sanders, partner at Carver Knowles’ Taunton office says: “Farming is a forward thinking and futuristic business. Anticipation of land issues, commodity prices, future funding and legislation have always been a key factor in effectively managing farming or land based businesses.”
Fellow-partner, Mark Neason, agrees: “Although there is a general feeling that land is overpriced and that it is impossible to get a foot on the ladder, I believe there has never been a better time to start farming. Non farming purchasers need someone to manage their fields and as a result occupation can be relatively good value. If land or grasskeep can be taken at the right price, farming businesses will have the opportunity to expand significantly.”
As leading agents, Carver Knowles aims to maintain its position as the farmers’ and landowners’ agent of choice.
The firm has always used the latest technology to enable it deliver a cost effective and efficient service for its clients.
Sanders adds: “We see an exciting future for the industry, with many opportunities. We are determined to meet the future needs of our clients and continue to provide innovative solutions to land and property issues. We are forging ever stronger links with organisations that will produce the farmers and key industry players of the future such as Harper Adams University College and other educational institutions to ensure we are at the cutting edge of new thinking. We are ideally placed to provide our clients with the best professional advice and guidance to take advantage of future land and farming issues. “
As part of its own future planning, the company is looking at opportunities for clients and itself to manage carbon use and is currently searching for land to rent or buy for biofuel production for its own cars.
Also included in its near future plans is a new eco office and commercial agents have already been instructed to find suitable premises in the Taunton or Wellington area.
