The Principle

The Organic Livestock Marketing Co-operative (OLMC) was formed in 1996 by a handful of dedicated livestock producers, determined to
secure a future for their product in a competitive national market. It has now become the largest
independent Member-controlled Co-operative operating in the UK. It has always spoken of three main aims:

To ensure producers receive the best possible return for their livestock.
To enhance the supply chain which historically has been unstructured, fragmented, and vulnerable.
To encourage growth of the organic market.

The marketing skills that are now part of the day to day life of OLMC are being recognised nationally and provide the organic livestock producer with a platform from which to secure their future.
OLMC is owned and controlled by its producer members. We work for their benefit.

The Practice

OLMC utilises the best possible professional services in marketing, administration, stock selection and finance. It does this by a unique method of networking, using proven specialist companies on a contracted basis.

To every Member we offer:

A structured approach to marketing

Period analysis of carcass results

On-farm technical advice

100% insurance against bad debts

A stock selection service

Benchmarking with fellow producers

Regional advisory groups

A secure history of delivering a quality product and a commitment to excellence have enabled OLMC Members to achieve status with many of its customers.

The Mission

The Organic Livestock Marketing Co-operative is committed to the highest standards of animal
welfare and methods of livestock production, as embodied in the UKROFS approved organic
livestock standards.

To achieve this aim, it provides its members with an organised system for the sale and purchase of
organically produced stock with a view to handling a major share of the market.

It aims to benefit members by the negotiation of prices and contracts, and by the development of
improved networks of abattoirs, processors, hauliers, wholesalers and retailers committed to
the sale of organic meat.

OLMC is constituted as a Members' Co-operative. The running costs are met by a commission charge on sales of members’ stock.

OLMC has established aims and principles that have proven to be of value to both its membership and customers.

OLMC has a clear policy of working with other organic producer groups to help minimise fragmentation of the supply chain. It also has a supportive approach toward co-operating with all producers, whether they are large or small.
