A NEW UNIVERSITY FOR SWANSEA
SWANSEA Institute has become the UK’s newest university as it changed its name to Swansea Metropolitan University.
The Institute submitted an application for university title following the recommendation that it be awarded Taught Degree Awarding Powers.
"We have a long tradition of academic excellence stretching back more than 150 years.
"Our School of Art was established in 1853 and teacher education in 1872," he added.
Swansea Institute’s work-related courses are designed to help students gain employment in what is fast becoming a very competitive jobs market.
According to recent figures released by the Higher Education Statistics Agency in July, Swansea Institute graduates are among the country’s most readily employable.
An impressive 94.3 per cent of them get jobs or enter further education within six months of graduating, well exceeding the UK average of 93.2 per cent.
