ANNIES Fruit Shop in Ticklemore Street, Totnes, is owned by dynamic duo, father and son Roy and Sean Johnson and Sean’s wife Julie.
The business has been running for 29 years and was established by Roy and the late Annie Johnson with Sean joining the family business nine years ago. Since then Sean has helped to expand the business.

Annies sells an abundance of local produce and a limited selection of organic produce and has now decided to expand the organic side of the business by opening another shop on the Plains in Totnes.

Sean said: “We try to buy as much local produce as possible to try and keep food miles down and to help keep employment in the local area.

“We believe we should all pay our producers a fair price as there are not many small businesses left and we hope the public will continue to support us on this.”

Annies also supplies wholesale to local businesses who want to support local growers.

Sean says: “The organic shop on the Plains will sell a wide variety of products including organic milk from farms in Dorset and hopefully a small independent milk and yoghurt producer in Kingsbridge.

“We will also be stocking Luscombe Organic Drinks, Tideford products and some organic cheeses and a full range of organic fruit and vegetables.

“Continental cheese and Westcountry cheeses will also be stocked with a wide variety of Denhay products.

“A local company near Plymouth, which produces organic ketchup and sauces — to be screened on Ready Steady Cook on February 20 — has also been newly sourced.”

Annies offers a delivery service in both shops. Deliveries are carried out daily in Totnes and surrounding villages within three miles of Totnes. Elsewhere delivery is on a weekly basis. Information on deliveries is available on the website www.anniesfruitshop.com

The organic shop will make deliveries following purchases within the shop, weekly to Newton Abbot, Torquay and Paignton. Orders can be made online via Annies 24-hour telephone service.

Due to daily changes in the market, not all prices are available on the website but Annies endeavors to keep prices competitive.

Roy, Sean and Julie would like to thank all their customers for their continued support over the years and hope some will help provide feedback in the new shop with ideas of what else they might like Annies to sell.

They would also like to say a big thank you to Torquay United for supporting their new venture.

To celebrate the new shop opening this week, Luscombe Organic drinks are supporting Annie’s with free tasting.

For more information please telephone Annies on 01803 867265 or the new shop 01803 866774.
